Understanding the Inputs (इनपुट को समझें)
Total runs (कुल रन):
The batsman's total runs in the innings, partnership, or career span you are analysing. Use the same source for runs, fours and sixes. Include all runs (boundaries, singles, doubles, triples, extras credited to the batsman). Don't include byes or leg-byes unless they are credited to the batsman.
Fours (चौके):
The number of 4s hit by the batsman. Each four contributes 4 runs to boundary runs. Count only shots that reach the boundary (or cross it) for four—not overthrows or extras.
Sixes (छक्के):
The number of 6s hit by the batsman. Each six contributes 6 runs to boundary runs. Boundary runs = (4s × 4) + (6s × 6). Boundary % = (boundary runs ÷ total runs) × 100. Non-boundary runs come from 1s, 2s, 3s and other runs.
Formula Used (उपयोग किया गया सूत्र)
Boundary runs = (4s × 4) + (6s × 6)
Boundary % = (Boundary runs ÷ Total runs) × 100
बाउंड्री प्रतिशत = (चौके/छक्के से रन ÷ कुल रन) × 100
Example: 65 runs, 6 fours, 3 sixes → Boundary runs = (6×4) + (3×6) = 24 + 18 = 42 → 42 ÷ 65 × 100 ≈ 64.6%. Non-boundary runs = 65 − 42 = 23 (from singles, doubles, triples).
Why Boundary Percentage Matters (महत्व)
Boundary percentage shows how much of a batsman's runs come from fours and sixes versus running between the wickets. T20 batsmen often have 50–70% boundary percentage—they rely on boundaries to maintain a high strike rate. In Tests, boundary % is lower (30–45%) because batsmen take more singles. A high boundary % with a high strike rate indicates an aggressive, power-hitting style. A lower boundary % with good strike rate suggests strong running and rotation of strike.
Coaches and analysts use this to compare batting styles, assess pitch conditions (low boundary % on slow pitches), and plan bowling strategies (set fields for boundary hitters vs runners).
Do's and Don'ts (क्या करें और क्या न करें)
Do's:
- Use runs, fours and sixes from the same innings or career.
- Count only boundaries (4s and 6s)—runs from 1s, 2s, 3s are non-boundary.
- Use boundary % to compare batting styles across innings.
Don'ts:
- Don't mix formats (e.g. Test fours with T20 runs) when comparing.
- Don't confuse boundary % with strike rate—they measure different things.
- Don't include extras (byes, leg-byes) in total runs unless credited to batsman.
